Pelee PC Flow.jpg (40366 bytes) Mount Pelée, Martinique, 1902. This photo of a dramatic pyroclastic flow was taken by Alfred Lacroix, famous French Volcanologist. A similar but earlier pyroclastic flow wiped out the city of St. Pierre, killing 28,000 people on May 8, 1902. Four eruptions of this magnitude -- in terms of volume of erupted material -- are expected worldwide during the next decade.
