Cleveland Volcano, Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Lava (?) or mudflow (?) from the summit as photographed by pilot Dean Cully (copyright) on February 2, 2001. An explosive ash eruption began on February 19, lofting ash to 35,000 feet. This 1730-meter-high stratovolcano has erupted about 10 times since 1893, the previous event to the present activity occurred in 1994. Return to Archive or go to Next Photo
